Tobias Harris: My Player of the Month.
Reliable 🙃 3 point-shooter. Overpaid millionaire. Friend of Matisse. What YOU need to know about the Sixers second-best player.
Hey Sixers fans!
There were 11.2 seconds left. The Lakers were up by one, and it was the 76ers ball. Danny Green passes it to Seth Curry. He dribbles the ball, and passes to Tobias Harris. He runs, and shoots a jump shot with exactly 4 seconds left and… He makes it with 2.4 seconds left, and wins the game. Pretty awesome to watch, right? I wouldn’t know, my dad told me the next day and I had to watch the highlight on YouTube.
But nevertheless, that’s an amazing shot. Plus, Tobias has been having a pretty good season. So I decided to make him My Player of the Month. Not to be confused with the NBA player of the month, this is my own thing.
Ever since I did that Tyrese Maxey profile, ( If you haven’t read it here’s the link ) I’ve had this idea to do a post about a 76ers player that I think has been doing well, or want to learn more about. For February, I’m doing Tobias Harris.
I’m gonna start with some quick facts. Tobias went to University of Tennessee. In 2011, he was drafted 19th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats. He played on a few teams before the 76ers, including the Clippers, Bucks, and Magic. He is now a starting forward on the Sixers.
One thing I like about Tobias is that he is really into social activism. He has been seen in Matisse Thybulle’s vlog talking about the BLM protests and about what the NBA is and can be doing to support the movement. It’s really awesome, and you can check out Matisse’s channel on YouTube to see Tobi talking about it.
Tobi has also really improved at his 3 point shooting, which is a good thing for our team. When he started playing with the Sixers, he had a 32.6 3P%, his second year it was 36.7%, and this year its 43.8%. You can see him settling into his position as our resident chucker. Some of his other cool highlights this year a great drive against the Pacers, and a beautiful dunk in a game against Charlotte. He dribbled the ball up the court and then dunked on Bismack Biyombo. I’m still at a loss for words.
A bad thing about having Tobias is his ridiculous contract. He is paid a insane amount of money, and its way to much. He gets paid 32.74 MILLION dollars a year. Do you know how much Joel makes? 29 million. That’s a lot don’t get me wrong, but Jo is the best player on our team, and Tobias makes about 3 million more then him. And the worst thing is that as the end of his contract nears, the more money he will make. In the 2023-2024 season, he’ll be making $39,270,150. I will be 13-14 years old by then. You know what I would do with that money? I would save up for college and a place to live. With the other $38 million I would work on starting a mini petting zoo. Goats, dogs, unicorns, we’d have it all. Again, the amount of money he makes is insane.
So yeah, those are my thoughts on Tobias Harris. I really like him, and I think he’s a good player, along with loving him and Matisse Thybulle’s friendship. In Matisse’s vlog, Tobi is a frequent guest, and they crack a lot of jokes too. In other episodes they went boating with Kyle O’ Quin and played golf. It’s so wholesome and sweet, not to mention hilarious.
All of these (except for his contract) are reasons for him to be an All-Star, so make sure to vote for him, and I’ll see you next time!

Another great piece, Grace. Two questions. First, where do you find all the details on the players lives and stats? Second, more of a comment than a question, but I hope you'll be getting the unicorns for your petting zoo from a unicorn rescue shelter, right?
